Bumpy Crossings Derailed - Smoother Roads for Oakland
Nine bumpy railroad crossings in Oakland are now a thing of the past thanks to Union Pacific Railroad and Oakland’s Public Works Agency. A year-long planning and negotiations effort has resulted in nine (9) railroad crossing upgrades. The upgrades replaced existing crossings with concrete panels and provided a smoother roadway that requires less maintenance.
Union Pacific funded the upgrades with minimal cost to the City. "These upgrades represent our continued commitment to care for our infrastructure and will go a long way to improve road conditions in Oakland," said Raul Godinez, II, Oakland’s Public Works Agency Director. "This joint effort between the City and Union Pacific Railroad is a win-win situation. Oakland residents benefit with smoother roads and shorter railroad crossing wait periods while Union Pacific benefits with safer and faster travel through our city," Godinez said.
